Porta-Bote Int’l Introduces New Line Of Unique Folding Boats
They Call It Their “Green Boat”
porta-boat-(FishNLand.com)- On the anniversary of 37years of continuous production, Porta-Bote International has unveiled its new high-performance portable folding GREEN boats.
The internationally patented Porta-Bote is now available in the Genesis and eXxstream Series of 8′, 10′, 12′ and 14′ models with hulls weighing only 49, 59, 69 and 96 lbs. respectively. All Porta-Botes can be opened in just a few minute, weigh half as much as comparable aluminum boats and store easily with their 4 inch (11.4cm), flat folded size. The tough hulls carry a 10 year limited warranty by the manufacturer, never need painting and are unaffected by saltwater, fuel and even battery acid.

Naturally, Porta-Botes are ideal for the energy conserving boating enthusiast who enjoys fishing, hunting and sailing but lacks the space to store ordinary boats. Porta-Botes are also extremely practical for owners of small autos and Rvs since they easily stow on the roof or side of the vehicle. By eliminating the need to tow a heavy trailer, fuel costs are significantly reduced.

In addition to being used as an owner’s main craft, Porta-Botes make excellent ship-to-shore dinghies since they take up so little space on board sailboats and cabin cruisers.

As for performance, Porta-Botes leave similar sized aluminum boats and inflatables in their wake only needing half the horsepower of these heavier boats. The hull’s design traps the bow wave and guides it under the boat to dramatically reduce drag while increasing speed and stability.

On-The-Water Towboat Company For Recreational Boaters And Anglers Expands With New Location On Lake Wylie, NC

On-The-Water Towboat Company For Recreational Boaters And Anglers Expands With New Location On Lake Wylie, NC

ragin-bullLake Wylie, N.C.-(FishNLand.com)- Just three years after opening TowBoatUS Lake Norman, local entrepreneurs Steve Branum and Jeremy Thompson have opened a second location, TowBoatUS Lake Wylie.  The on-the-water towing and assistance company gives recreational boaters and anglers a reliable way to summon on-the-water assistance day or night.  Battery jump starts, fuel drop offs, ungrounding services and tows back to a launch ramp are some common requests.

Branum says the new home construction ringing the lake is bringing more boaters, many who enjoy watersports such as wakeboarding or tubing.

“We want to be here to help them get back home safely. With no channel markers and frequent fog, it’s easy to get into trouble if you are not familiar,” said Branum.

Capt. Kevin Scott, a USCG licensed captain, is the new port’s manager of operations.  Located at Pier 49 Marina on the North Carolina side of the Buster Boyd Bridge, the new port joins a nationwide BoatUS towing fleet of over 600 towing assistance vessels.

Stationed at the port is 22-foot center console response boat loaded with a full complement of towing and salvage equipment including extra fuel, engine fluids, pumps, dive gear and a battery “jump pack” to handle dead batteries. The vessel can be identified by its distinctive red hull, white bow stripes and “TowBoatU.S.” lettering along its sides.

BoatUS offers an “Unlimited” on-the-water towing plan for freshwater boaters for just $53 a year, which includes BoatUS membership.  Without a towing plan, boaters face costs that nationally average about $600 per incident.  Boaters in need of towing assistance can reach TowBoatUS Lake Wylie by calling the company directly at 704-588-5464; by VHF radio on channel 16; or through the BoatUS toll-free Dispatch Service at 800-391-4869.

Ranger Boats’ 1850Rs Named To Top-10 List By Boating Life

Ranger Boats’ 1850Rs Named To Top-10 List By Boating Life
Multi-purpose boat lauded for exceeding needs of anglers, watersports enthusiasts

FLIPPIN, AR-(FishNLand.com)- In the May 2009 issue of Boating Life, the publication’s staff unveils its list of the Top-10 best boats of the year, judging more than 100 different models on criteria ranging from design, performance, functionality and value. Highlighting this year’s list is the 2009 Ranger 1850 RS, the re-designed fish ‘n’ play platform that gives families a quality alternative to aluminum without breaking the bank.

Boating Life extolled the versatility of the 1850 RS – a feature-laden vessel that exceeds the needs of both serious anglers and die-hard watersports enthusiasts. With the ability to troll for walleye, cast for bass and crappie or enjoy a day packed with family fun, the magazine wrote that “in neither case did we feel compromised.”

“Many attempt the ‘fish and ski’ concept, but most fall short of the mark in one or more areas,” wrote Boating Life staffer Pierce Hoover in his glowing review of the 2009 model powered by a 150-horsepower Evinrude E-TEC outboard. “This is certainly not the case with Ranger’s 1850 RS, as it meets all the needs of serious fishermen and also transitions into a darn good family boat.”

Fishing features of the 1850 RS are unmistakable: a full front deck casting platform, a choice of Lowrance or Humminbird electronics at the console, baitwell on the front deck, livewell/baitwell on the back deck and a Minn Kota 70 Power Drive all come standard. The walk-through windshield, redesigned seats, on-board insulated cooler, drink holders, ski and ladder storage and Sony AM/FM Sirius Satellite-capable radio and CD player all solidify the 1850’s family fun features.

“Of the 100-plus boat models we’ve had our hands on, some have stood out for their departure from the norm,” the magazine wrote in its Top-10 list introduction. “Others stayed with us because of their solid feel at the wheel. Another group heightened our interest when we found out how much they cost. The chosen few on the following pages grabbed us for doing all of the above.”

With ergonomic improvements throughout the cockpit, improved aesthetics and redesigned features throughout the vessel, the 1850 RS raises the bar in the 18-foot fish ‘n’ play market.

“The concept behind the boat was to give customers a more stylish, more stable and better-performing alternative to aluminum boats, and right out of the gate it became one of our most popular and versatile models,” said Ranger Boats President Randy Hopper. “We’ve added even more comforts, features and refinements this year, but fishability remains the No. 1 priority.”

Ranger's 1850 RSMeasuring 18 feet, 5 inches with a 98-inch beam, the 1850 RS is rated for 175 horsepower, more than enough power to dutifully fulfill the task at hand, whether the day is for fishing or water sports. With a 38-gallon fuel capacity, the 1850 RS can make make long runs for fish, tow skiers and tubes or take the family for an evening cruise.
