IGFA Inshore World Championship Set For July 7-9
keyslogo_711_24351ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys -(FishNLand.com)- Premiering a new partnership with Florida Keys Outfitters, the 2009 International Game Fish Association Inshore World Championship is set for Tuesday through Thursday, July 7-9, in Islamorada, often called the Sportfishing Capital of the World.

Several other changes also are afoot for the 2009 tournament. Now in its ninth year, the annual event will feature two distinct competitive styles, fly and light tackle, with 15 anglers from each division. Awards will be presented to recognize the inshore light-tackle world champion and the inshore fly-fishing world champion.

According to Sandy Moret, the tournament’s new director, each angler will draw his or her guide/teammate’s name at the kick off and will keep the same partnership throughout the championship challenge.

“The results will weigh more heavily on the individual anglers’ skills than in the past,” Moret said. “Additionally, teams should be able to develop a rhythm and work more effectively together without having to start from square one each day.”

The Inshore World Championship brings the winners of IGFA qualifying tournaments from around the world to angle for the world’s choicest selection of inshore sport fish: bonefish, tarpon, permit, snook and redfish. To be invited to participate in the 2009 championship, anglers must have won one of 36 inshore qualifying tournaments held in 2008 throughout the United States, Bahamas and Australia.

The championship action is to be showcased on ESPN Outdoors and its televised Saltwater Series.
